Apple cake and custard slice

INGREDIENTS

cake base

220 g raw sugar
220 g Butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
100 g milk
220 g Self Raising Flour
stewed apples

10 granny smith apples
1 tablespoon cinnamon - ground
2 tablespoon sugar
500 g water
creme patisserie

150 g sugar
90 g plain flour
3 eggs
1000 g milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
topping

2 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon - ground
RECIPE'S PREPARATION
Prepare baking dish and cake batter
Line a 20cm x 30cm x 5-7cm baking dish (roasting pan works well or large pyrex dish) set aside
set oven at 180deg C
Place raw sugar into mixing bowl and mill 5 sec/speed 9.
Add butter and mix 15 sec/speed 5.
Add eggs and mix 15 sec/speed 5.
Add milk and vanilla mix 10 secs/speed 5.
Add flour and mix 10-15 sec (max)/speed 5.
Spread batter into baking dish and bake 20 minutes 180 C.
ensure that the cake is cooked through and golden
Remove from oven and set aside.


Stewed apple

Peel, core and slice apples.
Arrange in varoma dish and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Add water into mixing bowl and set varoma in place.
Steam for 20 min/Varoma/speed 3.
Set aside to cool for a few minutes.

Spread apple evenly over cake base


Creme patisserie

Place sugar into mixing bowl and mill 5 sec/speed 9.
Add flour, milk, vanilla and eggs and cook 13 min/90C/speed 4.
Cook 2 min/100C/speed 4.
Pour over apple layer.
Sprinkle with topping of sugar and cinnamon.

Bake for 20 minutes at 180C in oven until topping begins to caramelise
Remove from oven and leave to cool before slicing.

NOTES
sugar can be reduced (see comments below for what has bee trialled)
slice can be frozen!
delish served hot with a scoop of icecream or served warm as a slice
or cold!
Holds together perfectly and is easy to serve simply on a napkin when cold - making it a great picnic dessert
