Those of us on fixed incomes have to save where ever we can. Since the price of beef has sky rocketed we have been eating more chicken, turkey and pork. I was in the local IGA this weekend, and I spotted ground Boston Butt.
I love to BBQ Boston Butt so I thought what the heck lets give it a try. It was $2.99 a pound vs. over $4.00 for ground beef. I made Butt burgers just like I would with ground beef, and they were delicious. No doubt the local store is doing this to help out local residents. If you have a local store or a butcher I am sure they would grind some for you. Or if you have a grinder like on a Kitchen Aid mixer you can grind your own. I have seen Boston Butts on sale as a lost leader for $1.99 a pound.
I also found Butterball ground turkey for $2.99 a pound so I picked up some of that as well. It is a great substitute for ground beef in chili, stews and casseroles.
Supply and Demand, beef will come down if we all do the same.
