It stars Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Chenoweth. And a couple of weeks later on February 6, they’ll release Gergey Bodrov’s CGI-filled fantasy The Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. It will go up against the Sony comedy The Wedding Ringer, and there’s actually already a trailer for it, which you can watch right here.

The untitled cybercrime thriller stars Chris Hemsworth and Viola Davis, which is a good sign this film might make quite a bit of money. It will be going up against Fox’s upcoming Frankenstein reboot (or whatever they’re calling it), and I’d rather not consider what movie people would rather see.

The film only recently found a director in Andrews Muschietti, who helmed the Guillermo dl Toro-produced horror Mama earlier this year. He’s a good choice, since the film will be embracing more of the classic horror elements in a modern day setting, but April really isn’t the time of year anyone wants to watch a dark and scary adventure flick, particularly one that reminds them of Brendan Fraser. I guess that means this one will be drowning just as much in CGI as the previous iterations.

I have no doubt that McKay and Stoller are the perfect pair to deliver solid laughs, but are Washington and Smith the right pair to pull it off? To me, Richard Ayoade and Craig Robinson are the pair you want for this project, but they won’t bring in near the profit that the two attached A-listers will.

His writing career first began working with the Judd Apatow gang on the short-lived series Undeclared, but that eventually led him to directing Jason Segel and Kristen Bell in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and its more off-the-wall sorta-sequel Get Him to the Greek. His next film is the Seth Rogen vs. Zac Efron comedy Neighbors, and he also co-wrote Muppets Most Wanted with director James Bobin, which will be out early next year.

After years of kicking around both Smith and Washington’s schedules, the goal is now to get this film into production by next summer. If Stoller is unable to turn in a script that wins over everyone, then both stars will reportedly drop out, according to Variety. Stoller is planning on delivering the script to Warner Bros. and Overbrook Entertainment within the next month.

Just as buzz was starting to finally build for Scarlett Johansson thanks to her much-hyped performance in Spike Jonze’s upcoming Her, the starlet’s hopes for one of the movie industry’s biggest awards has been dashed on a technicality. Because she doesn’t actually appear in the film, like as a physical body, she doesn’t qualify for any of the acting categories at the Golden Globes. The disappointing rejection was first reported by The Wrap yesterday. The ruling was supposedly confirmed to the outlet by sources within the HFPA, and while the organization hasn’t spoken on the record, the report is very believable. The Hollywood Foreign Press has a long history of taking a hard stand on voting criteria, as exemplified recently by a new rule that bars documentaries from the Best Foreign Film category starting next year. It would have been a shock if they would have considered Johansson, frankly. Still, that hasn’t stopped a whole host of writers on the Internet from lazily claiming sexism. At this point in the campaign, it’s very difficult to project what Johansson’s actual chances at a nomination might be. Her performance has been very well received thus far. She’s earned praise across the board, including a Best Actress at the Rome Film Festival. That could certainly translate into momentum once the Actor’s Guild lays out its nominations and critics start picking their year end Best Of lists, but then again, there’s also a distinct chance it won’t. That’s the thing about smaller film festivals and critics’ groups. The voters are not the same as for the Golden Globes or any of the other bigger name events. So, for all we know, Scar Jo may not have earned a nomination even if she was eligible.
