Removing Linux (Ubuntu) and installing Windows (Irish Beast)

In short my Dad bought a laptop with linux on which I have never used.Tried removing Linux and installing windows and got 101 ways of doing it. Laptop doesn't want to boot from a windows disk. Its fine for surfing the net etc so not the end of the world b..
