Dried Tomato Ground Beef Balls, Onion Sauce

Comments: The particular taste of dried tomatoes flavor this dish.
Excellent served along with freshly boiled parsley wax and string beans.

Ingredients Preparation

1 1/2 pounds [680 g] lean ground beef
1 teaspoon [5 mL] garlic powder
1 teaspoon [5 mL] onion powder
1 1/2 cups [375 mL] fine breadcrumbs
2 eggs, beaten
2 ounces [60 g] dried tomatoes, really finely chopped
1 teaspoon [5 mL] finely chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon [15 mL] finely grated orange rind
3 tablespoons [45 mL] vegetable oil
2 cups [500 mL] beef broth
2 tablespoons [30 g] butter
2 onions, diced
4 ounces [113 g] dried tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons [30 mL] light cream [15%]
Salt and pepper, to taste



Into a large bowl, mix together ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 cup [250 mL] of the breadcrumbs, beaten eggs, finely chopped dried tomatoes and fresh thyme along with grated orange rind.
Salt and pepper then shape mixture into small meatballs.
Roll in remaining breadcrumbs to coat.
Heat vegetable oil into a frypan.
Add and brown meatballs stirring often over medium heat for 20 minutes.
Pour in 1 cup [250 mL] of the beef broth; leave to simmer for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, melt butter into a clean frypan.
Soften onion dices stirring often for 3 minutes.
Add chopped dried tomatoes; fry for 2 minutes more.
Pour in remaining beef broth and leave to simmer for 5 minutes.
Stir in cream.
Add done meatballs into tomato sauce.
Mix, then remove from heat.
Serve immeditately.
