National Pie Day is a holiday focused on enjoying Americas favorite dessert and sharing it with friends and loved ones, Brian Slee, manager of Sauders Doughbox Bakery, says in a statement from the historic village in Archbold. The bakery produces as many as 19,000 from-scratch pies every year, with more than 40 varieties available.
To celebrate the occasion, the Doughbox Bakery is offering $1 off pies, as well as free tastings from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the drive-through window will open at 6:30 a.m. The Barn Restaurant will offer $1 off any slice of pie with the order of a meal. It will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
Celebrity wait night
The Toledo Opera Guilds Diamonds and Denim Celebrity Wait Night fund-raiser will be Jan. 26 at La Scola Italian Grill, 5375 Airport Hwy.
Ill be one of the honorary waiters collecting tips donations to the guild along with other opera lovers, including WTVG-TV, Channel 13, meteorologist Jay Berschback, Lucas County Sheriff John Tharp, and WTVG reporter Sanaa Orra. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with mingling and cocktails from a cash bar. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The Pickers will provide live music.
The menu consists of the Salad di Casa (house salad) and your choice of entree: New York strip steak with Dried Porcini Mushrooms
sauce; Lake Superior white fish in a pecan-polenta crust; manicotti filled with herbed ricotta and topped with marinara, Alfredo sauce, or pesto; or Chicken Marsala with mushrooms. Dessert will be a luscious caramel pecan tiramisu.
