As we learned in the first Purge film, the story is set in the not-so-distant future where Americans are encouraged to purge their dark urges during a 12-hour stretch of time once a year. On Purge night, all crime is legal. The first film centered on a wealthy family trying to survive a home invasion on Purge night. The sequel will center on a new set of characters, including Frank Grillo's Leo, a man hellbent on revenge after losing his son. And it looks like he's not up for playing the hero to these people... but he's willing to hand out some guns and help them out in exchange for a car.

Those four characters are couple Shane (Zach Gilford) and Liz (Kiele Sanchez) and mother/daughter duo Eva (Carmen Ejogo) and Cali (Zoe Soul). The first preview for The Purge clued us in to Shane and Liz's plight. Their car broke down while they were on their way to a Purge-night lockdown. As for Eva and Cali, we learned in the mentioned featurette that they're not really in the best financial situation, which left them vulnerable to Purgers. Moving on to other promotional content, we have this oh-so-patriotic new poster, which uses the American Flag as a backdrop, beyond the words, "United We Purge." Now, the bad news. Peter Jackson informs fans that the full trailer for the final The Hobbit film is "not going to be released until around Oct." because "the complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we’re all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet." Makes sense. We’re fully aware of Jackson’s capabilities when building Middle-earth, and we don’t want to rush him in his process. The Battle of the Five Armies will be the director’s final sprint through this amazing cinematic landscape to which he has dedicated years of his career, and he needs to cover every visual detail with the precision we have come to expect.

The recent featurette we shared revealed a bit of information about the three sets of characters whose lives are about to collide on Purge night.
