Texas Toast
I use homemade white bread and homemade rye for this - you can even use the Texas (thick-sliced) Toast white bread found in many stores.
Of course - homemade bread makes this just out of this world!
8 inch-thick slices of good quality bread
1 cup (2 sticks) of butter
salt, oregano, and granulated garlic to taste (omit salt if using salted butter)
Melt the butter in a microwave safe dish (cooking times will vary; it takes about 90 seconds in my 600 watt microwave - I melt mine on the stovetop). Spoon 1/8th of the melted butter over each slice of bread, using the back of the spoon to spread the butter evenly. Sprinkle each slice with salt, oregano, and granulated garlic. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
For a nice variety add grated cheese of choice or a nice cheese blend.
