Perhaps the most critically divisive game to ever hit the market, I have yet to talk to someone who thought this bizarre tale of murder, mystery and wonder was “just okay.” Similar to the best works of Stephen Lynch, partially because it was so inspired by the guy's television series, Twin Peaks, Deadly Premonition isn't what you would call your “average video game.” There's an open world, combat, driving, conversations with branching dialogue, loads of NPCs to interact with and more. But it's the vehicle through which those familiar aspects are delivered that sets Deadly Premonition apart. It features aspects that are so bad they become good and, taken as a whole, transform the game into what I consider a truly charming triumph of an experience. It's something you really need to play to understand and, thanks to Steam Greenlight, no more people than ever will finally be able to do exactly that.
