Fan of Kevin Hart and Josh Gad
Watch The Hangover Part 3 Online The last couple of days have brought a flurry of news on the Veronica Mars movie-front, some random and some less random but no less fantastic. As the video above indicates, Percy Daggs III has signed on to reprise his role as Wallace Fennel, Veronica's best friend and occasional accomplice from Neptune High. Their friendship carried over into college in Season 3. If we were to make a list of character that really needed to return for the movie, Wallace would be on it, so Daggs' casting is great news.
Watch Fast and Furious 6 Online Also set to reprise a role is Chris Lowell, who played Piz in Season 3. When the series left off, Veronica and Piz were kind of an item, though I doubt I'm alone in expecting that relationship to crumble under its own too-cute-to-last weight eventually. It could be argued that Veronica's a bit like Buffy in that she needs some 'monster' in her man and Piz just didn't have much of a dark side. Logan on the other hand Let's not obsess over the past. Piz will be back! He joins Kristen Bell, Percy Daggs, Enrico Colantoni and Jason Dohring among the confirmed returners.
Watch The Hangover 3 Online The next bit of casting is where things get a bit more random, and curious. THR reports that Christine Lakin has signed on to reprise her role as Susan Knight for the film. Even the most obsessed Marshmallows among the fandom might have to take a moment to try to remember who Susan Knight is. I'll give you a clue. Her initials also work for the words "Sweet Knees." Still guessing? She only appeared in one episode, and to explain how she fits into the story, I'll have to spoil that episode, so if you're planning on watching the show but haven't seen Season 1's "Mars. vs. Mars," skip the rest of this paragraph. The episode has Veronica investigating allegations that her favorite teacher (played by Adam Scott) was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. His accuser was Leighton Meester's character Carrie Bishop. But it's revealed later that Carrie was accusing the teacher on behalf of her friend Susan Knight, who was pregnant with Mr. Rooks' baby and no longer in school. Scandal! Not only was Susan Knight a one-episode character.
Watch After Earth Online She was also barely in the episode, appearing in only two scenes, one of which was a flashback. So what's the deal here? A part of me wants to obsess about this bit of casting news because it may be relevant to the overall plot of the film. Otherwise why bring this random character back? But we do know that part of the plot of the film involves Veronica attending her Neptune High 10-year reunion. And it's possible Rob Thomas is looking to fill the venue with as many familiar faces as he can possible rally. Or there's more to it than that. We may have to wait and see if Leighton Meester and/or Adam Scott are cast as well. Well, it was really only a matter of time before this news crossed our desk. Even though Man of Steel isn't set to open until Friday, positive buzz and a swell of anticipation amongst movie-goers has led Warner Bros. to officially green light a sequel to the Superman film, with Zack Snyder attached to return as director and David Goyer once again working on the script.
Watch Iron Man 3 Online In their report breaking the news, Deadline notes that one of the immediate questions surrounding the newly announced sequel is the involvement of Christopher Nolan. The Dark Knight Rises director not only served as a producer on the most recent Superman movie, but also helped co-developed the story and the approach to the character with Goyer. He is currently working on his own next directorial effort, the sci-fi story Interstellar, but sources say that he will be involved with the sequel - just not in a "full blown" capacity.
Watch The Hangover 3 Online Deadline also once again confirms that Warner Bros. has plans for a Justice League movie that will feature Superman as a character, but fails to deliver any more details than that. Since last summer we've been under the impression that the studio has been developing their answer to The Avengers for a 2015 release date, but if they are planning to move forward with Man of Steel 2 (or whatever they call it) first, then that could push Justice League back a bit. With any luck the whole situation will clear up once Man of Steel has been released.
Watch Star Trek into Darkness Online UPDATE: Deadline has updated their story and now says that Goyer has a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. that will see him not only be writing the Man of Steel sequel, but also Justice League. This somewhat conflicts with reports from last year that said that Gangster Squad writer was penning the script, but perhaps the deal was changed when it was reported that Beall's script had been scrapped. Awkward scheduling may have been at least partially to blame for the ratings struggles Josh Gad's comedy 1600 Penn suffered, which led to its eventual demise after one season at NBC. The goofy but amusing White House-set family comedy never managed to generate much of an audience and it was unsurprisingly left off NBC's line-up for the upcoming season. On the bright side, the series' cancellation means the Book of Mormon star is available for other projects, and that includes a yet-to-be-titled feature comedy, which will have Gad starring alongside comedian Kevin Hart.
Watch GI Joe Retaliation Online Directed and co-written by Jeremy Garelick, the Miramax and Screen Gems film will have Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man), playing the role of Jimmy, a man who provides "best man services" to guys who don't have a close guy friend to stand by their side among the wedding party on the big day. If you're familiar with Gosh Gad and his style of awkward humor, you may have already guessed that he's set to play one of Jimmy's clients. Doug is a groom-to-be with no best man. He's in a particularly tricky pickle, as he not only lacks a best man, but he's also unable to deliver on the nine groomsmen he's fabricated, so he hires Jimmy to help him bring his charade to life. If the ruse fails, it "threatens to destroy everything." Sounds dire. The Break-Up's Jay Lavender co-wrote the film with Garlick.
As a fan of Kevin Hart and Josh Gad, I'm willing to be optimistic about what may be a relatively predictable shenanigan-filled comedy. It will be particularly interesting to see what kind of chemistry these two have on screen. Is Hart's character set up as a Hitch-like fast-talker who's trying to fix Gad's character's situation? Or is he merely a liar-for-hire who's going to make a mess of this guy's life? In addition to his short-lived NBC comedy and successful run among the original cast of Broadway's The Book of Mormon, Gad's credits include The Internship and the role of Steve Wozniak in Jobs. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart has the concert film Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain set to arrive in theaters next month, as well as Grudge Match. One of the most incredible results of the marriage between the world of filmmaking and the internet is the amount of official behind the scenes material that can be made available right in the middle of big studio productions. Whether its Peter Jackson releasing production diaries regularly from the set of The Hobbit or Marc Webb and Bryan Singer.
